Developing Youth Potential www.projectk.org.nz
Also known for the stars programme is a youth development programme designed to inspire 13 – 15-year-olds to reach their potential through building self-confidence, promoting good health and education and teaching life skills such as goal setting and teamwork.
Working alongside schools, students are selected to undertake a wilderness adventure, (kind-of a mini outward bound) followed by community work and then paired up with an adult mentor for 12 months.
The mentoring system is a fantastic concept developed to continue working with the teens after completing their wilderness adventure and community work. This helps to retain focus and keep the mentee moving forward in a positive direction.
Mentors are there to offer friendship, guidance and encouragement towards achieving the goals they have set.
